Renumberings in Glasgow c1980

Post by rileyrob »

Can anyone help pin down when Glasgow reviewed road numbering? The old routes are still shown on the 1976 Landranger, but my 1984 OS Atlas shows the current routes, more or less. However, I don't seem to have a map from the intervening 8 years.
I've been working through the B roads, and almost all of the B76x were changed in this period, as well as many changes to the A roads.
I presume that the changes were all implemented in one go, but that might not be the case.
Rob.
My mission is to travel every road and visit every town, village and hamlet in the British Isles.
I don't like thinking about how badly I am doing.

Going by Route Planning Map insets (as my Landrangers and 1:250k sheets are currently unavailable), there's quite a lot of differences shown between the 1980, 1981 and 1982 editions. The 1980-81 changes are possibly connected to the opening of the M8 Monkland Motorway at the same time; whilst the 1980-81 changes are possibly associated with the opening of the first stage of M77.

I lived near the (old) A727 from 1973-1977. The old system that you saw documented (as of 1976) still seemed (from memory) intact in 1977 and probably for a few years after that.
