OpenStreetMap layers on SABRE Maps

Post by Steven »

About a month ago, in this thread, people talked about how they liked some of the different ways OSM data is displayed, including motorways in blue.

Whilst, as mentioned on that thread, we do already have the Historic Counties layer which has an OSM background with motorways coloured in blue, members started to mention other OSM tilesets that they liked, including ones that have motorways in blue but are more up-to-date than the HC layers.

So, in conjunction with the development team, we've done some more work on SABRE Maps so that we can host a whole collection of different OSM-based tilesets in the "OpenStreetMap" category.

Currently there's the following OSM-based tilesets there:
* OSM Standard
* OSM France
* OSM Germany
* CyclOSM
* OpenTopoMap
* OpenRailwayMap

Obviously, we can only use tilesets as allowed by their owners - but if there's any more that are freely reusable that people would like to see on here, then post in this thread and we'll try to get them all together in one place on SABRE.

What is DPA in the historic counties layer? I see it shows numerous exclaves of Staffordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire in what is now the southern half of Sandwell.
How would you like your grade separations, Sir?
Big and complex.

It refers to the Detached Parts Act 1844 - the last time the historic counties were changed in legislation. It cleared up the vast majority of the small exclaves and enclaves, and left only the largest ones afterwards such as Dudley, Furness and Maelor.
