Chelmsford can't be a real place, there's no f in :censored: Chelmsord!

But seriously, does nobody check the signs *before* they start putting them up?

I posted this in the botched signs thread. Aside from the typo, the sign should also be green as it's functionally part of the primary A131.

603 pages of the Botched Roadsigns thread says no, they don't. Any old crap will do.

Is this not from the former A130 junction, now the non-primary A1016?

It would appear to be here...

Functionally it is part of the A131 because it is after the northbound exit from the A12.

So it appears. Was unsure, as the replacement sign that has yet to be updated on Google Maps is non-primary.

There was also a new ADS on West Hanningfield Road on the outskirts of Great Baddow that was pretty new, which had Chelmsford spelt incorrectly, but this was subsequently amended.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/DyCoJYqxoNycg6h88 This was incorrect for many years. You can see the patch where it was amended, as the spelling was missing a 'y', as in Sir Walter. It was only when someone noticed it and the local paper, obviously having a slow news day, ran the story, that it was corrected. Yet it's still not correct, as it refers to Laindon rather than London, which despite being just six miles away, is almost certainly not meant to be on there.

Apparently the manufacturer cocked this one up. The big problem is local authorities send PDFs to sign makers and not the original CAD files when using KeySign, or the .sp output when using SignPlot.

This means a manufacturer ends up redrawing a sign which is often wrong to begin with... If the sign shop isn't great either...

See also the very annoying habit of copying whatever was there before, so an inaccurate sign that's been there for 30 years will be there for another 30!

This happened in Edenfield, meaning signs referencing "Blackburn (A677)" have been replaced, despite the A677 ceasing to exist in 1997.
