11 signs for a non existent motorway

Post by roadphotos »

I don't know how this has happened but there are 11 signs for the A77(M) (a motorway that doesn't exist) on the A78, A71 and B7080 near Irvine in Scotland, I would imagine that this is unique to have a motorway that has never existed on so many road signs. Does anyone know of anywhere else where this is the case ?

Never mind non existent motorways, how about ALL of them.

Harold Shand: "Nothing unusual," he says! Eric's been blown to smithereens, Colin's been carved up, and I've got a bomb in me casino, and you say nothing unusual ?"

But that is the most sensible route to all of the motorways from there.

I've seen one sign for the A77(M), which I think was in Kilmarnock about ten years ago, but I'd no idea there were 11 of them!

There were several of them years ago, surprised they still live on - they presumably referred to the 1996 extension, not the most recent length as they were there in 2003 when I first visited that area.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/8XTgFprWGhtRv5cm6 - this one is fairly prominent.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/9PUUaqvPfnwLidj28 - this looks more recent, though, most other signs are still green and just say Glasgow (A77).

Correction - it was Irvine like the others! I've stumbled across the old post where I first mentioned it.
