I've been meaning to post about this road for a while. The entry in the Digest is slightly wrong as the road doesn't connect to the A7 at its southern end.
Access is via the C51, with the road running SE along the former line of the A7 and past houses until it reaches a turning head at The Cleuch. Beyond there, an abandoned section of road continues south until it peters out under the embankment carrying the current A7.
The map, however, seems to imply that the C52 is in fact on the other side of the A7 and runs from south of Eastwood to the B7007 near Whitelaw. The council's description of "Old Carlisle Road" is a bit vague, but on the map this route looks like it is part of an historic alignment continuing towards Heriot near the B709 which may at some point have been an important route for travellers heading south from Edinburgh.
