Just a note to warn anyone travelling on the M1 anywhere near Sheffield (Meadowhall) that the Tinsley Viaduct (both decks) is undergoing major emeergency structural repairs at present. This means all traffic has to get off at J34 and trundle around unclassified roads past Meadowhall to rejoin at J35. Essentially, do go anywhere near it. It'd be quicker to go via the M18, A1(M) and M63 to get to Leeds/Wakefield/The North...

Tinsley Viaduct IS a long term problem, cos it is constantly under undue stress from being badly designed. IIRC the original plan was for a concrete structure, but Sheffield Council objected and said that it should be steel (as it ran past several steel works).
Was surprised that they weren't even able to open up the access road in the centre of the lower deck for Northbound traffic....
