Here are some links on india's new highway system. The New York Times article gives an interesting insight into the the new network which has been dubbed "The Golden Quadrilateral".

One thing I had in the back of my mind when I read this article was 'how well are these new highways being built?'
Are they being contructed to a high standard or do they only look good but will begin to crumble in five years?

I'll be going to India for three weeks in late January and early February. I'll be spending most of my time in Kerala. The main route down the west coast is NH-17, though it's mostly wide S2. What I did notice last January when I stayed in Calicut is that they are grade-separating most of the level crossings in the area. Would be good to see how the flyovers are progressing.
