Immediately west of Bwlch. The artic was carrying 540 sheep, 150 of which were killed. Fire crews used cutting equipment to free a lot of trapped sheep.

Normally diversion signs are yellow and temporary, this is grey and put up to herald the one way system on Old Oak Common Road about 30 years ago

This appears to be a U turn facility but look how it ends up in the fast lane and visibilty isn't very good either.

A40 in foreground, road adjoining was the old Swansea road (A4067) . Recent 'upgrade' of lowered pavement instead of road where traffic now has to drive over when cars parked.....Oddly some locals still ignore the 'one way' rule since it was introduced around 10 years ago. (opposite the Spar shop).....The interesting bit it the anglo/welsh road writing saying no entry.

Looking West this location has many minor incidents, prior to this bend is a downhill straightish section, road greasy under trees in damp conditions...speed over the NSL can result in rear end breakaway.

Chris's Cafe. This has somehow survived the opening of the M40 J4-5 in June 1967, despite being a few miles from the nearest junction. The accommodation may have helped. There were some lorries parked out of sight to the right. A classic transport caff design from the 40's or 50's perhaps.

Back down again. Once the trunk route to South Wales, until Sept 1966, when the Severn Bridge opened and, the A4 took over that role, for the next 5 years. The remaining traffic disappeared in March 1974, when J5-8a opened.

Same bit of nice old 60's or 70's dual carriageway, heading east. Before Sept 1966, this was the main London - South Wales trunk route. The Severn Bridge opening allowed most to go via the A4 and A46 to the M4 at J18.
