Crossings related to the B976 | |||
The Bridge of Muick carries the B976 across the River Muick near its confluence with the Dee a short distance upstream from Ballater. It is a single stone arch bridge dating back to 1740 with a wide, shallow arch and plain facings. The only real decoation to the structure is on the parapets, which are topped with alternately sized blocks of stone forming a castelated effect. The central block on the downstream side carries the date 1878, which presumably relates to the bridge being widened, although this is not mentioned anywhere in the official records. The road across the bridge is probably wide enough for two cars to squeeze past each other, but judging by the leaf litter in the autumn this is a very rare occurrence.
