The C1017 is the main access to Inverness Airport at Dalcross. However, it is also the direct route from the village of Croy to the A96. The airport part of the road starts on the A96 at the Airport Roundabout and heads north west, crossing the railway. In the not too distant future, the A96 will be upgraded to dual carriageway and the existing junction will be replaced with the Mid Coul Junction. Once over the railway, a lengthy loop to the west takes the road around the end of the runway zone to a roundabout for access to the terminal. To the left, the C1017 continues past Dalcross Industrial Estate to terminate on the B9039.
The other part of the C1017 heads south east from the Airport Roundabout, climbing gently as it meanders through fields and past woodland to reach the small village of Croy on the B9006. The construction of the Airport Roundabout saw the C1017 realigned slightly to the west to meet the new junction. The construction of the dual carriageway will see further changes in this area.
