The Cross Tay Link Road is a long term objective of Perth and Kinross Council to provide a third crossing point of the River Tay to the north of Perth, which is now due for completion in Spring 2025. Since first proposed, the route has seen several design changes.

The route will start at a new junction on the A9 to the north of the Inveralmond Roundabout, which involves moving the whole dual carriageway to the west for around a kilometre to provide enough space alongside the railway line. This junction will be a folded dumbbell interchange, originally designed with the sliproads on the south side of the junction, by those for the southbound carriageway have now been moved to the north. The road to the west is the proposed Springfield Link Road, which connects to the B9993 at Bertha Park.

The Cross Tay route will then cross the Tay on a new three span bridge - early plans suggest either a single mast cable stay design, or a more conventional concrete arched structure. After crossing fields, it will meet Stormontfield Road to the north of Scone Palace at a new Stormontfield Roundabout, then curve around woodland to meet the A93 at a second roundabout. The third roundabout will be the Highfield Roundabout, to serve a new development planned for the north of Scone, and then the route will terminate a short distance further east on the A94 at the final planned roundabout, approximately 200m north of the existing roundabout at the entrance to the town.

The route is planned to relieve traffic in Perth city centre, by providing a more direct route to the A9 from the A93 and A94, rather than having to pass through the city. It is currently phase 2 of the Perth Transport Futures Project, ahead of the Springfield Link Road which is phase 3. However, the high cost of the new A9 junction (on a new alignment) and the bridge over the river was expected to see the project delayed indefinitely. Site investigation work was being carried out in early 2018, and work started at Scone in early 2023, while the new A9 alignment was started in autumn 2022 and opened on 3 August 2023.
