Findlayston Bridge carries the A957, Slug Road, over the Cowie Water a mile or so west of Stonehaven. The bridge apparently dates back to the 18th Century, was widened in the 19th Century and restored in 1981. There is no record of which side the bridge was widened on, although photos suggest that the bridge may have been widened on both sides in the past. It is still narrow, however, without pavements and only just wide enough for two lanes, and with the sharp bend on the south bank further slowing traffic.
The bridge itself consists of two stone arches, a large southern arch with a smaller arch to the north, which was possibly originally intended as a flood arch, but the river appears to have migrated a little and now flows through both. The pier between them has small triangular cutwaters, but no other ornamentation. The face of the bridge is in red rubble work, but the parapets show signs of other stone work, including some large ashlar blocks, suggesting repairs over the years. The parapets also all have different termini, further suggesting they have been rebuilt in the past. The south west and north east corners splay out to different extents, while the south east corner splays much closer to the arches, and then straightens up to run parallel. The north west corner stops, with a lower rubble wall continuing.
