A13 Stanford-le-Hope Bypass Widening
Thurrock Council plan to widen the Stanford-le-Hope Bypass to D3 between the A128 (Orsett Cock) and A1014 (Manorway) junctions. The widening will extend through Orsett Cock, which combined with the recently completed A13 congestion relief scheme will mean there is a consistent route of at least D3 between the M25 and A1014. Thurrock say that 'DP World London Gateway will provide £10 million funding towards these improvements. Works will begin once a further £70 million of government funding is confirmed'.

Lots of crawler cranes and activity along this stretch now.
Re: A13 Stanford-le-Hope Bypass Widening
Went through this morning, and it's moving along quite well.
Abutments are going in at the Horndon Road footbridge, with most of the foundation work to the bridge complete.
Also noticed the new look westbound exit at the Orsett Cock is taking shape, along with the earthworks for what will be the widened A13 alongside it. They're still to tie it in to the end of the existing sliproad just before the roundabout, so I would imagine a number of overnight closures will be on the way to the slip road.
Read the first of twelve scheduled weekend closures will be later in the summer. Wonder if that will be for the installation of the new Horndon Road footbridge, seeing as that looks well advanced already?

The first closure is for an accommodation bridge demolition - the bridge between Horndon Road Bridleway bridge and the Orsett Cock interchange.Runwell wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2019 10:10 Went through this morning, and it's moving along quite well.

The coming weekend sees the first closure for the bridge demolition noted above which, although advertised extensively in the area over the last few weeks, is likely to cause some queuing traffic.RichardA35 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2019 11:24The first closure is for an accommodation bridge demolition - the bridge between Horndon Road Bridleway bridge and the Orsett Cock interchange.Runwell wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2019 10:10 Went through this morning, and it's moving along quite well.

This already HQDC upgrade leads to a virtually D3M-standard road all the way past Sadlers Farm to the A130-A127 junction at Rayleigh.
However, the last time in the evening peak I came down the A130 from Chelmsford, itself a recent HQDC, heading to the A13, giving way at the roundabout where you are crossing over all the A13 to A127 traffic actually took longer than the rest of the drive down from Chelmsford, with over a mile of two lane queue. Quite hazardous in the dark with the speed of the priority traffic.

Absolute carnage yesterday in most of South Essex. Some people stuck for up to four hours in the traffic. Not helped by a few accidents in the area. Even the A12, some miles from the closure, was massively affected to and from the M25. That must have been carnage in Horndon, with people queuing for the narrow width restricted entrance to the High Street between two shops.
What caused a lot of the issues around Stanford yesterday is the ongoing saga with the conversion of the Stanford Road/Buckingham Hill Road t-junction to traffic lights. For months the work has been done, but the traffic lights have not been commissioned, and the Council haven't done enough to pressure the developer in to completing the work. Therefore the temporary lights have caused long delays at peak periods, and it seems yesterday they were all stuck on red. Throw in the fact there are no trains this weekend on the C2C line and it strikes me as some appalling planning on the part of the Council all round.

A timelapse video of the demolition has been posted online.
Re: A13 Stanford-le-Hope Bypass Widening
It's interesting to see the bridge being nibbled at to bring it down. Once upon a time would this have been brought down with controlled explosions as happened on the M5 or is that trick now frowned upon?
