Are yellow box markings permitted to be used at crossing points like this? I've never seen it anywhere else.

No. Next!MotorwayGuy wrote: ↑Tue Oct 24, 2023 16:47 Are yellow box markings permitted to be used at crossing points like this? I've never seen it anywhere else.

Who puts a bus stop at the entrance to a roundabout?? This is just asking to be misunderstood as a left turn lane (seen on a recent Ashley Neil video):

Re: botched road markings
Wouldn't a stopped bus also block the pedestrian crossing there?tom66 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 29, 2023 12:48 Who puts a bus stop at the entrance to a roundabout?? This is just asking to be misunderstood as a left turn lane (seen on a recent Ashley Neil video):

Probably busy documenting grade crossings in the southeastern United States.

Re: botched road markings
That is absolutely dire. The bus also would obstruct the nearside primary which regardless of the offside primary is a design NO.

Re: botched road markings
It looks like it is plenty misunderstood. I can't understand whether you are supposed to use the bus stop area to turn left/go ahead, or if you are supposed to use the right hand lane. The hatched markings kinda imply it's not intended as a lane except for a bus, but there's no bus lane prohibition and driving across hatched markings and bus stops isn't illegal.

Re: botched road markings
Funnily enough, we used that crossing as pedestrians during our visit to Perth in June. It did strike me as odd at the time, but at least the eastbound traffic queue did leave the box clear. If the (horrendous) traffic we encountered was typical of evening rush-hour in Perth, presumably the crossing was being frequently blocked, so is there a correct way of marking (or signing) to deter this?Bryn666 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 24, 2023 18:34No. Next!MotorwayGuy wrote: ↑Tue Oct 24, 2023 16:47 Are yellow box markings permitted to be used at crossing points like this? Re: botched road markings
The only option is the advisory Keep Clear marking. If the crossing is frequently used and blocking is a problem then it should probably be a controlled crossing.FleetlinePhil wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 12:37Funnily enough, we used that crossing as pedestrians during our visit to Perth in June. Not sure if botched or some old standard, but looks strange, this sidestreet in Belfast uses studs as road markings, though they only encroach partway across the lane for the traffic light stop line

That was quite common before wear resistant thermoplastic paint came along, there were still a few back streets in Stockton on Tees that had them in the 70's. You can still buy them as they are sometimes used in car parks and for pedestrian crossings

Re: botched road markings
This relatively new crossing uses that style of round studs. The texture has worn off and some are missing.

not botched but a different set of divider compare to tigertails as its for a bus route exit only

Re: botched road markings
I found myself here https://maps.app.goo.gl/7JkmNxkFUtyszm8t6 earlier this week on a visit to Luton Magistrates Court, and was turning left to the car park. I stayed on the main carriageway in the left of the two lanes and indicated left, whilst White Van Man (who was behind me) went into the bus stop and wanted to undertake, beeping his horn flashing his lights and making some delightful hand signals when I began the turn to cross his path. I stopped (because whether I'm right or wrong, I'd rather not crash) and let him go. It seems a very dodgy layout though.

There's a similar rubbish (in my opinion) layout here:domcoop wrote: ↑Thu Nov 02, 2023 22:25I found myself here https://maps.app.goo.gl/7JkmNxkFUtyszm8t6 earlier this week on a visit to Luton Magistrates Court, and was turning left to the car park. Whilst it is signed in advance with move over and turn left signs, I can't help but wonder if cars end up smashing into that building in front. At least it's only a 30 mph road.
Re: botched road markings
Looking back at the 2008 Street View, here https://maps.app.goo.gl/byeRGMYKkZugfXVZ6, it looks like it used to be the same as the Luton one I posted, in that the left lane was intended only to be for the bus stop, with all traffic expected to use the right-hand lane. The give way junction was further out into the road, and the road markings painted accross the entrance and exit to the bus stop. But even that 2008 Street View captured someone who clearly didn't know where they were supposed to be (so straddled across both lanes!). They moved the give way back away from the road and added a left-turn arrow into the left lane (but kept the "move right" arrow at the same time!). I'd have thought this should be diagram 877 (suitably configured, like the bottom example but without the right turn)?tom66 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 02, 2023 22:53

Re: botched road markings
Although not officially allowed, it does look like a sensible use of a yellow box. As the basic rule is "don't enter unless your exit is clear" it fits the purpose of it.Bryn666 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 12:40The only option is the advisory Keep Clear marking. I suppose if there's a bus in front of you waiting at the lights, what you'll see is indeed a BUS ENDtom66 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 22:02 This is an impressive botch:

No solid line either, utterly pants.
Where is it, it looks a bit Lancastrian but I can't place it.
