Walking pace not slow enough? The sheer size of the transporter is evident here. The transformer doesn't look much sizewise but, weighs 470 tons.

A828-Loch Creran - Coppermine - 11506.jpg
A828 original route around Loch Creran

The road used to flood at the head of Loch Creran if there was a combination of heavy rain and high tide. Traffic was diverted around up the drive to a private house at Druimavuich. This used to be done by a temporary sign in the road but eventually these automatic signs were installed either side of the area that flooded. The detector seems to be in the base of a post in middle of that section. Everything was wind and solar powered - the sign was only illuminated as a vehicle approached.

The sensors on the gantry measure traffic speeds and display the limit. Unlike the M25 there are no speed cameras attached to them. When there is no limit, they show the de-restricted sign.

Lower Downs Road railway bridge, Wimbledon (south side) - Coppermine - 604.JPG
Lower Downs Road railway bridge, Wimbledon (south side)

'Lower Down' seems a very appropriate name for this bridge! 7' 9' headroom posted (although it's rather more than that in the middle). Note the 'Low Bridge' electronic sign on the left, triggered if a tall vehicle passes it.

Vehicle activated sign, A12 westbound off-slip, Wanstead

A driver travelling ever so slightly(!) above 30mph triggers the sign, warning them to slow down! Kind of almost like a 'driver-friendly' gatso!
