A11 (Isle of Man)
Road near Groudle Glen (C) Dr Neil Clifton
When visiting Groudle Glen, rather than using your own vehicle, (parking is very difficult here), it is better to use the Manx Electric cars which provide a regular service to the top of the Glen.

Victoria Pier Extension, Douglas... (C) Dr Neil Clifton
In the early 1960s, (possibly in connection with a Royal visit), Douglas Corporation built a short extension of its tramway towards the Victoria Pier. In fact the extension saw very little use, (it was said that the horses knew quite well where the tramway should end, and refused point-blank to go the extra few yards!), so photographs of it with a tram on it are quite rare. Here car No 32, complete with horse, prepares for the return journey to Derby Castle.

The remains of Summerland (C) Dr Neil Clifton
In August 1973, the entertainment complex Summerland caught fire and burned down with tragic loss of many young lives. All that remains now is seen here. Nearer the camera, a car of the Manx Electric Railway climbs on its journey to Ramsey.

Manx Electric Railway station, Derby Castle, Douglas
This is the southern terminus of the very scenic Manx Electric Railway from Douglas to Ramsey. The line was built is stages from 1893, and one on the original 1893 cars, either No 1 or No 2, is seen just behind the couple, while further back an 1894 ca and trailer are seen. Also visible are some of the promenade horse trams which also terminate here. The large iron open shed which served as the horse tram terminus was demolished some years ago.
