A49 & A577, Wigan
Thought I'd have a go at my first POTM entry here.
Taken in February 2008, this was taken at the A49 / A577 junction in Wigan. I thought I'd go for the contrast of varying features here, particularly with the old signposts and traffic lights.

Plank Lane Bridge, Leigh
The Plank Lane bascule (lifting) bridge in Leigh, taken on a glorious May 11th morning. The road climbs an embankment on either side due to the Leeds/Liverpool Canal being built on the top of it, with the road being about a foot over the water's surface. The twin-head signals are used to allow traffic to turn into and out of the road to the right of the picture whilst the bridge has been raised.

Firs Lane, Leigh
In a contrast to December's rural snowy setting, this is a more urban scene having been taken on Firs Lane in Leigh, depicting the effects of the recent snowfall.

A577 crossing Rose Bridge, Ince-in-Makerfield
The A577 in Ince-in-Makerfield, heading from Hindley towards Wigan. The bridge in the distance carries the Manchester to Wigan/Southport railway line over the road.
Also of note, had the M58 (or possibly, later, the A5225) been extended eastwards from Orrell to Chequerbent, it would have crossed over the A577 at a roundabout interchange somewhere between the 4x4 and the bridge.
