Troughbrook Interchange was a planned junction for the early 1970s Staveley-Brimington Bypass proposals. The preferred route which was promoted by the county council crossed the existing A619 at this point. An alternative was to have the route following an abandoned railway to the north of Brimington but this was rejected on traffic grounds. The bypass was scrapped later that decade but revived in the 1980s where the proposal was for a route along the formerly rejected railway route. The junction by now was for an at-grade roundabout on Works Road where it crossed the canal. This scheme was also later scrapped.
