The A1 in Germany goes from Heiligenhafen on the Baltic Sea to Saarbrucken, near the French border, with a gap at the eastern Eifel Mountains west of Koblenz.

The first section starts at the fishing port of Heiligenhafen, on the Baltic Sea coast, and travels south-west past Lubeck, Hamburg, Bremen and Munster to Dortmund, then south past Koln and Bonn to meet the B51 near Blankenheim. There is then a gap of 30km through the Eifel Mountains, and it resumes at the B410 near Dreis-Bruck. The second section travels south, crossing the River Moselle east of Trier, and ends at the northern outskirts of Saarbrucken.
