Grimsby is a fishing port on the Humber Estuary in Lincolnshire.
Traffic Flows
The main traffic flows are into the town and to the docks with cross town traffic between southern Lincolnshire and the industry and docks westwards up the Humber Estuary. There is also holiday traffic to Cleethorpes.
Grimsby does not have a bypass but there is an avoiding route using A18 from Ludborough then A1173 to Immingham.
History
Peaks Parkway
Phase 1 : Frederick Ward Way - the A1136 from Deansgate to Victoria Street was opened to traffic on 20 June 1988. The official opening had been on 14 June 1988 by Joyce Ward, widow of the former Town Clerk after whom the road is named. Cost was £2 million.
Phase 2 : Ellis Way - East Marsh Link. The 0.25 mile A1136 road from Victoria Street to Hainton Square was opened on 10 December 1993 by George Hobson, Chairman of Humberside Planning and Transportation committee. Contractor was Norwest Holst, cost £2.3 million.
Phase 3 : Peaks Parkway - The 3.3 mile A16 from Victoria Street South to Louth Road, New Waltham was opened on 19 October 1998. It was built on the route of the former Grimsby to Louth railway north of A1098 junction. A 0.4 mile A1098 spur linked to Hewitt’s Avenue and provided a northern bypass of New Waltham. Contractor was Birse, cost £10.9 million.
