The current Liggat Bridge crosses the Water of Deugh at a significant skew a short distance east of Carsphairn. It carries the A713 on a wide alignment between pavements and metal barriers as parapets. The construction of the bridge replaced a series of bends with a much smoother curved alignment, as the old bridge crossed the river at right angles a little further up stream. Nothing remains of this structure, except possibly the overgrown abutments on the river banks. On the north bank, the old A713 line is now part of the B729, while to the south it is a private driveway.
Junction
A short distance to the north of the bridge, the A713 meets the B729, which actually forks shortly before the junction, as it uses both arms of the former A713 alignment. This old loop retains priority, however, with the mainline of the B729 having to give way to itself! Both arms then curve around to quickly meet the new alignment of the A713, again at simple T junctions.
