The Studland Motor Road is a precursor to motorways. Built before the Special Roads Act as a motor road (using a special Act of Parliament), this private road was built to serve the Sandbanks Ferry, which opened at the same time (earlier plans for the road included a bridge over the mouth of Poole Harbour).
The Act of Parliament passed in 1923, and the road and ferry service was opened on 15 July 1926.
