Dagalien at Ulsta terminal

The Yell Sound Ferry carries the A968 on a 4.6km journey across the Yell Sound. Two vessels shuttle back and forth on the twenty minute crossing between Toft on Shetland Mainland and Ulsta on Yell. The route crosses the narrow Yell Sound, passing between the smaller islands of Bigga and Samphrey. Two near identical vessels currently serve on the route, Daggri and Dagalien, both capable of carrying 35 cars. Both ferries have substantial passenger accommodation overhead, offering good views on the crossing. The two vessels are double bow ended, allowing them to run back and forth across what is sometimes a rough channel, without having to turn.
