The Leirna coming in to Lerwick

This Shetland Islands Council run ferry takes 7 minutes to make the half mile crossing between Lerwick on the Shetland Mainland and the isle of Bressay which lies opposite, providing a sheltered harbour for the town. The Lerwick terminal is sited on the harbourside towards the north end of the town centre, and just a minutes walk from the shops, while the Bressay terminal is almost directly opposite. This uses a new slipway and terminal area, built to reduce the length of the crossing, Previously, the ferry sailed from the island's harbour area roughly half a mile further south. Unlike most of the other shorter routes in the Shetlands, the service is operated by a single vessel, normally the Leirna which can carry around 15 cars, with a small passenger cabin to one side. She sails at least once an hour from either port.
