Moses Gate Interchange is a complex junction connecting several roads underneath the Saint Peter's Way section of the A666 in Bolton. Between 1967 and 1971, this was a temporary terminus for the Farnworth-Kearsley Bypass section of the A666, which pre-dated the M61 by three years.
This junction is restricted, there is no exit for northbound traffic at all, these vehicles have to exit via Raikes Lane Interchange, roughly a third of a mile to the north.
The merges are rather short, meaning congestion can occur at peak periods in both directions. Safety Cameras enforce the 50mph speed limit in both directions in advance of the merges to assist those joining the road.
