Looking north east along the A7

The North Bridge Roundabout in Hawick was built along with the new Waverley Bridge across the River Teviot in 2000. Prior to this, the A7 had crossed the old North Bridge and passed through the town centre. With the opening of the new bridge, the route swapped places with the B6399 through the town, and so now stays on the north west bank of the river and crosses at Albert Bridge instead. The roundabout facilitates the sharp turn on the river bank, while also connecting to the new western end of the A698, which was extended across the new bridge. The roundabout has four arms in total, the fourth being the unclassified Mansfield Road which follows the riverbank east through an industrial area. Each of the four arms has a single approach and departure lane, albeit that most are wide enough for two cars to sit side by side, and seem to have been lined as such in the past.
