The Welsh Government / Llywodraeth Cymru is the executive branch of the devolved administration of Wales, accountable to the popularly elected National Assembly for Wales which was created by the Government of Wales Act 1998. Prior to 12 May 2011 it was known as the Welsh Assembly Government. Under the terms of the Senedd and Elections (Wales) Act 2019, the National Assembly for Wales, as of January 2020, is known as Senedd Cymru / the Welsh Parliament.

In the area of transport infrastructure, the Welsh Government is responsible for, amongst other things, the management, maintenance, and improvement of the trunk road network in Wales. It currently exercises this responsibility through two government agencies: the North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agent and the South Wales Trunk Road Agent.
