The A522 is the former A6 through Antrim town centre.
The road starts at traffic lights on the A6 Dublin Road opposite Antrim Castle Gardens. It heads east along Castle Way past the police station and runs through a GSJ providing access to the main car park. It then goes across a double mini-roundabout and bends right then left to reach another mini-roundabout on Church Street; this was the original line of the A6, first bypassed by Castle Way before that road was moved onto its current route.
We head east along Church Street, which is lined with buildings as is usual for roads on the edge of a town centre. After another mini-roundabout we go over two railway lines in quick succession - the lines from Antrim to Lisburn and Belfast respectively. On the far side we reach a full roundabout where the B95 turns left and we bear right along Belfast Road. This is a straight road lined with suburban housing, which soon ends at a roundabout where we rejoin the present route of the A6.
