Fiag Bridge lies on the north shore of Loch Shin and carries the A838 across the River Fiag. It is considerably closer to the loch shore now than when a bridge was first built here, thanks to the raising of Loch Shin by the dam at Lairg. The current bridge is a bit of an enigma. When driven across, the bridge appears to be a modern structure with metal railings in place of parapets and concrete buttressing to the abutments visible. However, beneath the road are a pair of arches which are at least faced in stone. It seems, therefore that the bridge could well be the original crossing built by Joseph Mitchell in the 1820s, but with the roadway raised and the abutments strengthened when Loch Shin was raised, partly to protect against the rising water level, and partly to accommodate construction traffic.
