Black Bridge (Lairg)

Carrying the A839 across the River Shin in Lairg, The Black Bridge was built by Tarmac Construction in 1986 with EU money. It is a three span concrete structure, which spans the river to the south west of the short multiplex between the A836 and A839.

There was obviously a road bridge across the River Shin at this point prior to the construction of the new bridge, however at present no details of it have been found. Mapping suggests that it was on (almost) exactly the same site as the new bridge.

Junction

Immediately to the east of the bridge is the southern junction between the A836 and A839. Indeed, traffic turning from the road south to the A839 is turning directly onto the bridge. The junction is a simple give-way T Junction, with the A836 maintaining the priority throughout the multiplex to the north.
