Route
A long cross country route which may have originally included the short section in Clare to make a full coast to coast road. By the 1950s, the two routes were split by a lengthy section of T and other L routes, so the two are being treated independently.
The eastern L31 started at Templemore north of Thurles and neaded east to Abbeyleix on what is now the R433. It then followed the R430 to Carlow, followed by the meandering R725 to Gorey. The final few km are now part of the much longer R742 to Courtown on the coast.
