The A1157 was the original number for the ring road in Darlington town centre.
The road started at the meeting point of the A67 Coniscliffe Road and the A66 (former A1) Grange Road. It then headed anticlockwise around the town centre along the D2 ring road. It ran east along Victoria Road, which was upgraded: the road still runs further to Bank Top Station. The road then bore left onto the new-build St Cuthbert's Way, where it lost the A67 and A66 again. After meeting the A167 (former A1) it headed west along St Augustine's Way to end on the A68 Woodland Road.
Presumably the ring road was allocated its own number as it was planned to make it a complete loop. This never happened, however, and so the A1157 number is now defunct. St Augustine's Way is now the eastern end of the A68 whilst the rest of the road is part of the A167.
