Mauchline Cross, also known simply as The Cross is the junction of the A76 and the B743 in the centre of Mauchline. It is a signalised staggered junction surrounded by shops where the B743 is staggered, although this is an ancient street pattern and not a deliberate modern realignment. The western arm of the B743, approaching along Loudoun Street, is just about wide enough to give two lanes for turning traffic, but all other routes have a single lane. The A76, Kilmarnock Road, does widen enough through the junction, however, to give two very small right turn lanes in the centre, which are necessary as both arms of the A76 get green lights at the same time.
