Outlane Interchange, also occasionally known as Pole Moor, is junction 23 of the M62. It formed a temporary terminus on the M62 for a short period from 1970 pending the completion of sections further east, until 1973. The A640 and A643 are often used to bypass the busy Ainley Top area.
The junction was originally planned as a dumbbell interchange with an additional roundabout on the northern side of the M62 instead of the loop. The bridge and southern roundabout were built exactly as planned. Despite these changes the junction was always intended to be limited access with no east facing slips.
The earliest plan for the junction had it positioned closer to Outlane, but it was moved following complaints.
