Smithston Roundabout lies at the northern end of the Maybole Bypass on the A77 and opened on 31st January 2022. The old alignment of the A77 through Maybole was lazily renumbered as the B77, while a minor road also heads west from the junction. It is therefore a four arm roundabout, where all four approaches have two lanes for turning traffic, and the southern arm of the A77 also has two lanes onto the bypass, to provide a climbing lane up the gentle hill away from the junction. The old A77, now the B77, was slightly realigned on the approach to the junction, to provide a squarer approach, with the original line following the footpath across the wide verge on the eastern side of the roundabout.
