Smittons Bridge carries the B729 across the Water of Ken. The river is bridged twice more higher up the valley, but this is the highest classified road to cross it. It is a single stone arch structure which carries a roadway that is notably wider than the approaches, although probably not quite wide enough for two cars to pass on the bridge. The bridge is built of plain grey rubble, with squared up blocks forming the arch rings. The parapets flow into curved wing walls which splay out considerably at each corner before terminating in small square piers. Larger blocks are used as coping stones on the parapets, and the four piers have assorted capstones which almost look like they were reclaimed from some grand building, but perhaps not in this remote location.
