Wendover is a gap town in the Chiltern ridge. While the two highest points in the Chilterns are either side, Wendover is roughly on the same altitude as other gap towns, like Princes Risborough and Tring. The route through the hills to the gap is one of the flattest, and it's position roughly on a direct line between London and the West Midlands, means that Wendover has had proposals for several projects linking the two areas passing alongside the town, most noteworthily, the 1920s Northern and Western Motorway and the 2010s High Speed 2 rail link.
