Route
The A4010 is an important cross country route across the Chilterns.
It starts at the Handy Cross Interchange (M40 J4, where it also meets the A404) and heads through the western suburbs of High Wycombe before reaching the A40. It multiplexes with it for a mile or so to the west to the outskirts of West Wycombe, and then runs north again into the countryside alongside the Chiltern Main Line, which it soon goes under.
It passes a station at Saunderton and then runs through Princes Risborough, where it zigzags along New Road to meet a junction with the A4129. After reaching open country once more the road follows a series of bends via another station at Little Kimble that take it up to Stoke Mandeville. It turns right at a mini-roundabout by the church and ends shortly afterwards at a full roundabout on the A413 southeast of Aylesbury.
History
The original route of the A4010 is largely unchanged, apart from the extension south from the A40 to meet the M40, which occurred in the 1970s after the motorway was built.
