The A5509 approaching the Hayhurst Bridge
The A5509 is a short link road in Northwich town centre. The road had been previously labelled as part of the B5337. However, as of 2011, this is now the road with the inordinately high number of A5509.
Starting at Castle Street, the road follows Chester Way as far as the A533 and then continues along Chester Way over the Hayhurst Bridge and back to the A559.
It's rather overkill, given that many other cities and towns are in need of road labelling, yet this road of a very short length - less than a half-mile - gets its own number. What makes things worse is that westbound A559 traffic is directed this way.
