The C39 is a lengthy route which starts on the A719 in Ayr and heads south east along Greenfield Avenue. After a dogleg to the left on the B7042, it continues south east along Doonholm Road to a roundabout. Here, a spur returns west along Murdoch's Lone, whilst the mainline heads east to the A77. Another staggered crossroads and the C39 continues past Corton, over the railway and then meets the A713 at a third staggered crossroads. The final leg then turns northeast and zig-zags across the landscape to the C74 at Macnairston.
