The Toll Plaza Interchange is Junction 1 and the terminal junction of the short little M898. Beyond this the main route becomes the A898 to cross the Erskine Bridge, while below both the A726 and B815 terminate at the dumbbell Interchange. The link road between the two roundabouts of the dumbbell sits roughly on the line of the old B815, which once continued eastwards to meet the A740 (Paisley - Old Kilpatrick) that crossed the old Erskine Ferry.

The slips up to the A/M898 are all on the south side of the roundabouts, with the north facing slips being quite tightly folded in order to double back onto the A898. This layout was designed because the toll plaza for the Erskine Bridge was sited in the space in between, and all traffic had to pay the toll! The slip roads were once two lanes, but today they have been re-lined as single lanes and still manage to feel narrow.
