For the current A3213, to the south of Victoria Station, see A3213.
The number A3213 is described in the 1922 Road Lists as London (Pall Mall (part)). However, as the London MoT map (right) suggests, there must be more to it than that.
What is certain is that the A3213 covered the 400 or so feet of Pall Mall west from the A4 Haymarket/Cockspur Street as far as the Waterloo Place/Regent Street junction. Pall Mall west of here was the B309.
Regent Street north of here is shown as an A-road on the MoT map but no number is given and indeed the 1922 Road Lists do not describe this part of Regent Street at all. The road cannot be the A4201 (which is the number of Regent Street north of Piccadilly) as that would put the road out of zone which is something that did not happen in 1922. So, unless further information is as yet undiscovered, the southern end of Regent Street must have been an extension of the A3213. The road ended at Piccadilly Circus where it met the A4 again.
The 1926 MoT map suggests that the A4 had been rerouted along the entire former A3213 by the mid-1920s, making the number redundant and able to be reused elsewhere in Westminster (although this did not happen for some time). However, the 1951 1:1,250 map of the area (the first large-scale OS map to show road numbers) shows the A3123 running along Regent Street to Piccadilly Circus, and also extended in other direction along the north quadrant of Trafalgar Square and Duncannon Street, to end on the A4 at the Strand.
The road is now definitely part of the A4, which seems to follow a number of roads in this area as part of a one-way system between Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square.
