A7071

The A7071 is a link road between the Raith Interchange and B7071, south of Glasgow. The orders for its existence and trunking were made on 4th October 2017 and came into force on 13th October 2017. It was formerly a spur of the B7071. It appears that the route was trunked in preparation for the reconstruction of the interchange with the creation of an underpass under the motorway for the A725. These works required new slip roads to be built in advance, and the trunking order included the Bellshill Road section of the B7071. There is no evidence that the route has been revised since, despite most maps still labelling it as the B7071, and indeed Roadworks reports from 2021 still identify the route as the A7071.

The route is very short, and dualled throughout. It starts at a signalised T junction on the mainline of the B7071 and heads north along Bellshill Road / the southern part of the original Bellshill Bypass line. A signalised crossroads allows traffic from the A725 to join the A7071, and also traffic from both routes appears to be able to head west onto what is little more than a cul-de-sac for a few properties. This is one way, with the road exiting onto the northbound A7071 a little to the south of the signals. A short distance beyond the signals, a sliproad forks left onto the M74, while the mainline continues to climb up to the signalised roundabout, where the A7071 ends. Signage on the roundabout only refers to the B7071 (without brackets) and on the B7071 mainline the A7071 is signed as the (A725) (with brackets).
