Addington Interchange is junction 3 of both the M20 and the M26.
It was built in 1980 when the M20 north was built. It was originally unlit but a series of accidents forced the Highways Agency to put up lighting. The M26 is the old route of the M20 and has remnants of the D3M layout.
In 1995 a tiger tail layout was trialled. This reduced collisions at the diverge and in 1997 the now-standard lane layout signs were trialled, which increased the usage of the second lane.
