Docklands is a new development on former London docks. While the development area includes the Surrey Docks and as far west as London Bridge on the south side, and Wapping and Tower Bridge on the north side, the destination on the road network consists of (roughly) the Isle of Dogs, the Royal Docks, Beckton, North Woolwich and Limehouse: in these places 'Docklands' doesn't typically appear on signs, instead smaller destinations like Custom House, Isle of Dogs, Canary Wharf and City Airport appear on signs.
As part of the redevelopment, several new roads were built, most notably the E-W route formed by the Limehouse Link Tunnel, A1261 and A1020
