The A4242 is a short link road in Carmarthen.
From Lesneven Roundabout at the north of the bridge carrying the A40 bypass over the River Towy, the A4242 heads eastward along a dual carriageway beside the river. Two roundabouts (the first, a junction with the B4312, although this is not signed) serve town centre destinations before the road narrows and climbs slightly, to end at a signalized junction with the A484, where another bridge crosses the Towy on our right and the bulk of the castle hill on which County Hall now stands rises steeply on our left.
