The western end of the A4256 at the A45 roundabout
The A4256 is a short link road through the centre of the Northamptonshire town of Daventry. Although the western end of the road is on the original line of the A45 the majority of the route is new-build, designed to pass to the north of the town centre.
The road starts at a roundabout on the A45 in the Drayton area of town. We start off heading southeastwards along Braunston Road. The first turn to the right is the unclassfied Western Avenue, which was the first A45 bypass. Continuing on along a residential road, the houses to the left are set back on a service road, suggesting space for future dualling.
The original line of the A45 now turns off along Brook Street just before a large roundabout where we meet the B4038. We continue east along Eastern Way. There are no more houses but a wide verge to the right continues to suggest a planned D2. It's not long before we reach the next roundabout, on the A425, which is Northern Way to the left and South Way to the right. Eastern Way continues ahead but is now the B4036 as the A4256 ends here.
An OpenStreetMap trace for this route awaits uploading to the SABRE Wiki.
