This article is about the Class III road numbered C40 maintained by Orkney Islands Council.
For other roads numbered C40, see C40.
For other roads numbered C40, see C40.
The C40 is a route which is almost unanimously considered to be part of the A963. It is certainly marked as such on most if not all current maps, however, it is not signed as such by the council, which suggests that the C40 number is still current. The route, of course, follows Pickaquoy Road in Kirkwall, a heavily trafficked route past the supermarkets, high school and leisure centre in Orkney's capital.
