Layout of the junction

Castle Hill Interchange was a planned junction on the M66, now M60, to the north of Bredbury Interchange. Its purpose was to provide the missing north facing connection onto the M66 from the local road network as the design for Bredbury Interchange up to the early 1980s omitted these links. A continuation of the spur to the A560 known as the George Lane Extension was also planned. The line of this extension is clearly visible in aerial imagery running parallel to Horsfield Way.

From about the mid 1980s the design for Bredbury Interchange changed to the layout that was built so there was no longer a need for a junction at Castle Hill.
