Portwood Roundabout is junction 27 of the M60 and was junction 13 of the M63. It opened in 1982, with the (then) A626 Saint Mary's Way to the south opening in the mid 1980s and the M60 (then M63) and A560 to the east opening in 1989.
It was originally planned to have east facing slips. Along with west facing slips at Bredbury Interchange this would have encouraged junction hopping and the associated weaving. It was only by the mid 1980s that the design was altered so that Crookilley Way would handle the local traffic between the two junctions and Bredbury Scissors would cater for the local links to the motorway.
